Your Visit
What to Expect on Procedure Day
We don’t want you to have any surprises during your visit with us, so here are a few things to expect:
- Check in with the receptionist 30 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete necessary paperwork, including signing a consent form to authorize the doctor to do your procedure as well as a Notice of Privacy Practice form. If you are a patient under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must sign your paperwork. If you are an adult who is unable to sign the consent, you must have someone with you who is authorized to sign on your behalf.
- Plan to be at the center from 90 minutes to two hours.
- A nurse will record your vital signs (pulse, breathing, temperature) and ask you about allergies and other medical information.
- An I.V. will be inserted so you can easily receive intravenous medication that will help you relax. In fact, many of our patients are so relaxed, they don’t even remember the procedure!
- If you are having an upper endoscopy (between the mouth and stomach), you will need to remove any dentures or partial plates.
After Your Procedure
Your actual procedure will last a very short time, typically between 15 and 30 minutes. When the doctor is finished:
- You will rest for a short time until the effects of the medication wear off.
- The doctor will then tell you what she or he found.
- A nurse will let you know when you can leave and give you any additional instructions.
